Committee of the Whole and Council Meetings
Council/Committee of the Whole meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month beginning at 6:00 p.m. These meetings are held in Council Chambers at the Essa Administration Centre at 5786 County Road 21 (east of Baxter). The schedule of meetings may be altered during the summer months. All Council meetings are open to the public. If you would like to make a delegation to the Committee of the Whole, an application form must be submitted to the Office of the Clerk by the Wednesday of the week before the meeting you wish to attend.

The Township of Essa is governed by a five member Council. Council is comprised of a Mayor, Deputy Mayor and three Councillors. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected at large while the three Councillors are elected in their respective Ward. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor also serve as members of the Council for the County of Simcoe.

Terry Dowdall has previously served as Councillor - Ward 3 from 2000 to 2003 and as Deputy Mayor from 2003 to 2010. Terry was born and raised in the Kitchener area and moved to Essa over 15 years ago. He is the owner/operator of the Baxter Corner Store.

Deputy Mayor Sandie Macdonald

Sandie Macdonald previously represented the Township of Essa as Councillor of Ward 1 for two terms, stemming from 2003 to 2010. She has been a resident of Essa for over 48 years, and has worked, lived and attended school in all three wards. She has been the owner/operator of the Naturally For You Health Store for 14 years.

Keith White is the newly elected Councillor of Ward 1 in Essa Township. He is currently the President on the Board of Directors for the Angus and Area Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife have lived in Angus and surrounding areas for over 24 years and has been the owner/operator of the Angus Borden Music store since 2007. |

Councillor Michael Smith, Ward 2

Michael Smith is the newly elected Councillor of Ward 2 in Essa Township. He is currently employed as a Firefighter, and as well teaches in Essa Township. He was born and raised in the Utopia area, and still resides in Essa Township with his young family.

Ron Henderson previously represented the Township of Essa as Councillor of Ward 3 for four terms, stemming from 1994 to 2000 and from 2003 to 2010. He is currently employed as a Supervisor in the Heating Department with the Federal Government, working at CFB Borden. He was born and raised on a farm on Scotch Line in Essa Township, and moved to the Baxter area at a young age with his parents. He has lived at his present home in Baxter since 1987. |
