Girl Guide / Scout Week - February 19 to February 26, 2012
Whereas the mission of Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada is to enable girls to be confident, resourceful and courageous, and to make a difference in the world; and
Whereas for 100 years, Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada has been a trailblazing organization advocating for girls and women, offering them opportunities to learn valuable leadership skills and meet the challenges that they face in their lives head on;
Now therefore be it resolved that the Council of the Township of Essa gratefully recognizes the valuable contribution made to the well-being of our community by the Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada, and does hereby proclaim the week of February 19 to 26, 2012 to be Guide-Scout Week.
Daffodil Month
Whereas people in our community are touched by cancer every day; and
Whereas since the first Daffodil Month campaign more than 50 years ago, people in our community have helped the Canadian Cancer Society fund research that is helping more people in our community survive cancer; and
Whereas the Canadian Cancer Society is leading the way in the fight against cancer in communities across Ontario by empowering, informing, supporting and improving the lives of Canadians living with cancer and rallying Canadians to make cancer history; and
Whereas 6,600 Canadian Cancer Society volunteers in the Simcoe-Muskoka Unit along with thousands of volunteers across Ontario are showing their support for people living with cancer throughout the month of April; and
Whereas Daffodil Month reminds us to learn about the steps we can take to reduce our risk of cancer and celebrates the tremendous contributions of volunteers and donors;
Now therefore be it resolved that the Council of the Township of Essa does hereby proclaim the month of April to be Daffodil Month, and urges all citizens of the Township of Essa to fight back against cancer by supporting the Canadian Cancer Society’s annual sale of daffodils and door-to-door fundraising campaign.
