Who can vote?
In order to qualify as an eligible elector, you must:
- Reside in the Township of Essa, or are the owner or tenant of land, or the spouse of such owner or tenant;
- Be a Canadian citizen; and
- Be 18 years of age (as of Election Day) or older; and
- Not be prohibited from voting as outlined in s. 17(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, or otherwise by law.
Am I require to bring identification (ID) on Voting Day?
Yes, all voters are required to show acceptable ID prior to voting. Acceptable ID includes but is not limited to: an Ontario drivers licence, Ontario Health card (photo), Ontario Photo card, and Ontario motor vehicle permit. How do I register to vote in the Municipal Election?
Once the preliminary list of electors (PLE) is available, there will be a public notice to review, correct or add your name to the voters’ list.
You can also add your name to the voters list by visiting voterview.ca.
What School Board can I vote for?
It is important that electors check their status on the Voters’ List to determine if they have been listed as an elector for the correct School Board. If not correctly listed, the elector can apply to the Clerk’s Office to amend the List prior to attending at the voting location.
