Administration Centre is Closed to the Public.  Staff are onsite to take calls and return e-mails.

Impact on Township Services & Programs

The Township​ places the health of our residents and visitors first, and as such, we are ensuring increased sanitizing practices on all common touch points and public spaces. Public education focusing on hand washing and coug​h etiquette has been increased in high traffic locations. Hand sanitizing stations are available at the entrances of each of our facilities that remain open and​ we are encouraging everyone to use them often.

We are also continuin​g to work with public health officials to monitor and assess the situation.  ​


​As of May 1, 2020 the Burn Ban affecting the Township of Essa has been lifted.  Burn Permits are available for purchase online ONLY​.  To purchase a Burn Permit please click here.​​

The Township of Essa is urging residents to use our Online Registration system w​here possible and avoid unnecessary trips to the Administration Centre.

A drop box is located at the upper le​vel entrance of the Administration Centre. Residents are able to leave payments via ​cheque in this drop box. Please ensure your contact information as well as information relevant to the payment is included and place in a sealed e​nvelope.  To vie​w location of the upper level drop box please click here​.

At its meeting held on April 1, 2020 Council lifted the winter parking restriction in the Township of Essa. This decision was made for compassionate reasons due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. We kindly request that residents refrain from parking on the street during street sweeping operations. 

​Please be advised that all other parking violations will continue to be ticketed. For parking restrictions in the Township of Essa please refer to Parking By-law 2005-96.

Simcoe County's public transit service has adjusted t​heir service schedules in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.  For more information on reduced services please click here​.


At its meeting of June 17, 2020 Council passed Resolution CW099-2020 which waives all penalties and interest charges with respect to unpaid 2020 Taxes and water/sewer charges until the first day of the month following the end of the Township of Essa's State of Emergency.


We are asking residents who have found a dog running at large, to please secure the dog in an outdoor location (ie; backyard, leashed safely to front porch, or secured​ in garage if at all possible) and contact K9 Pest Management for pick-up and transfer of the dog. Staff will not be en​tering into a home at this time to secure a dog, so please help make social distancing possible.

The Building Department will be issuing building permits.




Marriage Licens​​​es​ (Updated August 4​, 2020)

Effective August 4, 2020, Marriage Licenses are being issued to all applicants by either appointment or at the Administration Centre during business hours. 

As of June 19, 2020 the Ontario Government increased the number of attendees for weddings and funerals.  For indoor weddings or funerals 30% of the capacity of the venue is permitted.  For outdoor weddings or funerals 10​0 attendees are permitted.  

For indoor or outdoor weddings or funerals social distancing is still required for persons outside your social circle of 10 people.

Lottery Licen​ses

Existing Lottery Licenses may be extended upon approval from the Clerk's Department, please contact our office at 705-424-9917 ext 116 for further information.​ New Lottery Applications are not being accepted at this time.​

In response to Orders issued by the Province in respect of the COVID-19 Pandemic, all recreational parks, greenspace​ and​ fishing parks have been closed to the public.

Township closures​​ a​nd cancellations:​​​

  • Thornton Arena: Closed
  • Fishing Parks: Don Ross and Nottawasaga Fishing Parks are open (Centennial Park remains CLOSED)​
  • All dog parks: Open​
  • Baseball Diamonds, Skateboard Parks, Outdoor Arenas, Basketball Courts, Tennis/Pickleball Courts and Sports Fields (League play not permit​ted at this time): Open
  • Essa Public Library: Both Angus and Thornton Branches of the Essa Public Library are open​​

Council meetings will be held as scheduled, however no delegations to Council or Public meetings will be held until further notice.​​​


The County of Simcoe has post​poned the compost/mulch program at this time​. ​​Please keep an eye on our social media channels and our website for any updates.​
