​Fire Danger Rating in Essa​​​

What do the ratings mean?

The Township of Essa, being within the County of Simcoe, follows a four-tier fire da​nger rating system as follows:

Fire Danger RatingDescription
Low                      Burn permits are required for all open air burning. Open air fires must conform to all the requirements as set out in the Township of Essa Open Air Burn Bylaw. Fires must be under constant supervision and control from the time of ignition until the fire is totally extinguished. Burn permit information must be available, on site, upon request.
Moderate             Burn permits are required for all open-air burning. Open air fires must conform to all the requirements as set out in the Township of Essa Open Air Burn Bylaw. Fires must be under constant supervision and control from the time of ignition until the fire is totally extinguished. Burn permit information must be available, on site, upon request. During the Moderate Rating, additional caution must be exercised when burning.
High                     Burn permits are required for all open-air burning. Open air fires must conform to all the requirements as set out in the Township of Essa Open Air Burn Bylaw. Fires must be under constant supervision and control from the time of ignition until the fire is totally extinguished. Burn permit information must be available, on site, upon request. Extreme caution must be taken with all open flames and fires during the High Rating. Burn Permit holders are encouraged to delay the open air fire until a reduced level of the Fire Danger Rating is reattained.
Extreme               Total fire ban. No open air burning is permitted during the Extreme Rating regardless of having a Burn Permit. Dangerous fire ​conditions exist when the Municipality is under the Extreme Rating.​
