Municipal Law Enforcement Officers are responsible for the administration and enforcement of all by-laws passed by Township Council and various Provincial Statutes.
Officers are on duty 7 days a week, during and outside of regular business hours. Please call 705-424-9917 ext 122 or 123 if you would like to file a concern. Complaints can be filed via email to email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org, you can also file a complaint by filling out the Municipal Law Enforcement Complaint Form and mailing it to the Administration Centre or placing it in the drop box located at the upper level entrance of the Administration Centre located at 5786 County Rd 21, Utopia.

REMINDER TO RESIDENTS - Dogs are not permitted to run at large.
Due to an increased number of dog bites in and around our Township, and in the best interest of Public Safety, this is a friendly reminder to all residents that dogs must be leashed and are not permitted to run at large. Canine Control By-law 2006-18 regulates the control of dogs in the Township and is being strictly enforced. Owners of dogs found running at large are subject to fines.

NEW! Effective December 1, 2020 the Township of Essa will no longer offer after hours canine transportation. If a dog is found by residents after hours, we kindly request that you contact the Alliston and District Humane Society to surrender the dog or contact the Essa Administration Centre Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm at (705) 424-9917.
If you have lost your dog, our Officers may have taken the dog to Alliston & District Humane Society. Please contact them directly to make arrangements for pick up and payment of any outstanding charges at:

Dog Tags - Now Available Online!!
In accordance with By-law 2006-18 every owner of a dog shall obtain a license annually as soon as the dog has attained the age of twelve (12) weeks.
One-year dog licenses are available at the Essa Public Library (Angus and Thornton Branches), and at the Administration Centre for a cost of $25.00 per tag. These tags must be renewed each calendar year.
As of June 29, 2019 Ontario's Animal Cruelty enforcement has changed.
