Become a Candidate

In order to become a candidate for a seat on Essa Council in the upcoming 2022 Municipal Election, eligible candidates were required to file their Nomination Papers prior to 2:00 pm on August 19, 2022.

Nomination Period

In accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, the period for accepting and withdrawing Nominations closed at 2:00 pm on August 19, 2022.  As such, no further Nominations or Withdrawals will be accepted by the Clerk's Department. 

Campaign Period

The campaign period starts on May 2, 2022 or the date that the candidate files their nomination with the Clerk's Office.  It ends on the day the nomination is withdrawn or rejected or the day the candidate files the required documents after voting day on or before December 31, 2022.  No expenses may be incurred and no contributions may be accepted outside of the campaign period.

A person is not permitted to raise or spend money on an election campaign until they have filed their Nomination Papers.
