Committee / Local Board Descriptions
Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC)
If you have an interest in taking an active role in creating a barrier-free Township, we invite you to consider serving on the Accessibility Advisory Committee. The Ontarians with Disabilities Act requires that the majority of Committee members be persons with disabilities. The Committee is comprised of volunteers from the community, a member of Council with administrative assistance from the Clerk's Department. The Committee meets quarterly, four times per year, or at the call of the Chair. Meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. and are approximately one to two hours in length. Honorarium to be determined.
Age Friendly Steering Committee (AFSC)
you have an interest in planning for our aging population, we invite you to
consider serving on the Age-Friendly Steering Committee. The Committee will
serve as advocates, providing advice and perspectives on behalf of the aging
population of the Township of Essa. The Committee will bring forward an opinion
on the necessities needed to create a more livable community for an aging
population to thrive presently and in future years. Meetings begin at 5:00 p.m. and are held at the Township Administrative Centre every other Thursday.
Business Improvement Area (BIA) Board of Management
If you have an interest in marketing, streetscape and beautification improvements, seasonal decorations, and special events, then consider serving on the Business Improvement Area Board of Management. In order to be considered, applicants MUST be a current busines owner and/or commercial tenant within the designated BIA area. Members of this Board are selected by vote by existing BIA members.
Committee of Adjustment (COA)
If you have an interest in land use planning, land severance and minor variances, we invite you to consider serving on the Committee of Adjustment. The Committee is comprised of five volunteers from the community with administrative assistance from the Planning and Development Department. The Committee meets monthly on the fourth Friday of each month at 10:00 a.m. or can meet at another time agreed by the Committee members. The meetings are approximately two hours in length. Members receive an honorarium of $85.00 per meeting and $40.00 for attending site visits.
The Committee of
Adjustment meetings are scheduled for the 4th Friday of every
month. A minimum of 3 Applications are required in order for a meeting to
be held, and applications are due to the Planning and Development Department
the last working day of the month prior to the month the meeting is scheduled
for. Eg. November Applications would be due October 31st by 3:00pm.
Essa Public Library Board
If you have an interest in literacy, lifelong learning and cultural programs, we invite you to consider serving on the Essa Public Library Board. The Library Board is comprised of seven volunteers from the community, a member of Council and the CEO/Chief Librarian. The Board meets on the fourth Monday of each month, ten times a year. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and are approximately two hours in length.
Parks and Recreation
If you have an interest in recreation, we invite you to consider serving on the Parks and Recreation Committee. The Committee is comprised of five members from the community and one member of Council with administrative assistance from the Manager of Parks and Recreation. The Committee meets quarterly, or at the call of the Chair. Meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. and are approximately two hours in length. Honorarium to be determined.
Healthy Community Committee (HCC)
If you have an interest in planning for trails, sidewalks and public spaces within the Township for the purpose of creating a healthier community, we invite you to consider serving on the Healthy Community Committee. The Committee is comprised of volunteers from the community, a representative of the Simcoe County District Health Unit and a member of Council with administrative assistance from the Planning and Development Department. The Committee meets four times per year. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evenings and are approximately two hours in length. Honorarium to be determined.
If you have a background in negotiations, arbitrations and fencing issues, we invite you to consider serving as a fenceviewer. Fenceviewers respond to calls from the Clerk's Department to investigate complaints in accordance with the Line Fences Act. Guided by the Statutory Powers Procedure Act and the Line Fences Act, fenceviewers respond to situations regarding the placement of fences and also where a tree from either property falls on the line fence. Fenceviewers receive an honorarium of $50.00 per occurrence.
If you have a background in the agricultural sector, we invite you to consider serving as a Livestock Evaluator. Livestock Evaluators respond to the loss of livestock by farmers in the Township to determine the value of claim to be awarded based on the evidence presented in accordance with Livestock, Poultry and Honey Bee Protection Act. Livestock Evaluators receive an honorarium of $50.00 per evaluation.
Traffic Advisory Committee (TAC)
If you have an interest in working towards Community Safety, we invite you to consider serving on the Traffic Advisory Committee. The Essa Traffic Advisory Committee will provide a community perspective on road safety issues, promote public awareness and provide education for road safety initiatives, with an aim to enhance community participation and cooperation on ways to improve safety on Township roads for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.
Committee / Local Board Appointments
The Township of Essa Council appoints members of the community to assist the municipality in sitting on the various committees and boards for the Council term.
The Township of Essa is not currently accepting applications to sit on committees, as each Committee term runs for four years (consecutive to Council term). Please check back later.
