Release - New Canoe and Kayak Accessible Boat Launch in Angus now OPEN!

Baxter — May 12, 2022 — Calling all canoe and kayak enthusiasts! If you’re looking for an accessible and safe boat launch for your canoe or kayak, look no further than the west side of the Nottawasaga River beside the Angus Community Park.

Essa’s new Accessible Boat Launch is now open, and not only provides visitors with accessibility and safety features, but also allows for proper parking.

The Township of Essa recognizes the value of the Nottawasaga River to our region. The benefits of the river include, that it provides water for agricultural practices, a home for many aquatic species and other plant and wildlife playing an important part in our eco-system and it generates a source of eco-tourism.

Essa Mayor Sandie Macdonald has commented, “I’m thankful for our staff who have worked hard to create our new Accessible Boat Launch for all to enjoy, all that our waters have to offer.”

Essa Township lies in the heart of Simcoe County and contains a population of approximately 24,000. The Township intends to continue to construct additional trails and boat launches alongside the river to create a corridor connecting beyond its borders.

On May 18th at 10:00 am, media are invited to an event to commemorate the opening of Essa’s first Accessible Boat Launch. Essa Mayor and Council will be joined by members of the community at the Angus Community Park.
