Employment Opportunity: Municipal Law Enforcement Officer

The Township of Essa is a dynamic and growing municipality with a current population of approximately 23,500, located in the County of Simcoe and southwest of the City of Barrie. The Township is currently seeking an individual to fill the requirements of a full-time Municipal Law Enforcement Officer (MLEO) position.

Reporting to the Manager of Legislative Services/Clerk, the MLEO is responsible for enforcing the Township’s By-laws; conducting site inspections and gathering evidence in relation to issues of non-compliance of Municipal By-laws (i.e.: untidy lots, canine control, noise, etc.); responding to general inquiries and dealing with complaints; issuing tickets; preparing summons and court briefs; carrying out ongoing patrols and surveillance of the Township; and other such duties as assigned.

Key Qualifications:

• Post-Secondary education in the field of law enforcement.
• Completion of MLEOA Foundations (Parts I and II) is deemed to be an asset.
• Minimum three (3) years of closely related experience / A combination of education, training and experience may also be considered.
• Ability to interpret, apply and enforce municipal by-laws, and gather evidence to support infraction and/or charge.
• Ability to exercise sound judgement and work in a team environment.
• Valid Class “G” Driver’s License in good standing.
• Satisfactory Criminal Record will be required upon start.

This is a full-time position involving 35 hours per week which includes various shifts (days, evenings, weekends). Salary range is $55,728.05 - $65,573.85 (2024). The Township of Essa offers benefits and a competitive compensation package.
