Employment Opportunity - Roads Supervisor

With a current population of approximately 24,000, and approximately 400 kilometers of road, the Township of Essa is located in the heart of the County of Simcoe and southwest of the City of Barrie. The Township is presently accepting applications for the position of Roads Supervisor.

Reporting to the Manager of Public Works, the Roads Supervisor is responsible of overseeing the year-round infrastructure programs and projects including road maintenance of all roadways, construction, public works operations and other municipal activities as required. The Roads Supervisor must possess a minimum of five (5) years of direct supervisory and leadership experience in a comparable position and demonstrated ability to effectively lead personnel, oversee operations, budget control, make sound decisions, and maintain high standards of performance and accountability is essential.

Key Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary education in Civil Engineering and Certified Roads Supervisor accreditation.
  • Minimum five (5) years of direct supervisory and leadership experience in a comparable position,
  • Able to respond to emergency callouts within one-half hour.
  • Excellent communication and public relations skills, record-keeping and organizational skills.
  • Extensive experience in road, water and sewer construction, surveying and in the operation of backhoes, graders, dozers, snowplows, etc.
  • Valid Class “DZ” Driver’s License in good standing.

This is a full-time position, involving 40 hours per week which may include overtime and various shifts (days, evenings, weekends). Wage range is $47.30/hr – $57.17/hr (2026). The Township of Essa offers excellent benefits and a competitive compensation package.
