Essa named as recipient of Hydro One Ice Storm 2025: Recovery Grant

On June 13, 2025, Hydro One Inc. (Hydro One) announced 50 Indigenous communities and municipalities that will each receive up to $10,000 through the Ice Storm 2025: Recovery Grant. The damage caused by the 2025 ice storm was severe and widespread, with three days of ice accumulation causing uprooted trees, downed lines and more than 2,700 broken poles across the province. Hydro One crews, alongside 30 Canadian utility partners and contractors, worked day and night in freezing rain, snow and wind to restore power. Several Indigenous communities and municipalities declared states of emergency due to the storm, and in many places, clean-up is ongoing.

Mayor Macdonald and Council of the Township of Essa, would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Hydro One for providing grant funding in support of the 2025 Ice Storm clean up support.

Hydro One's contribution represents more than financial assistance – it is a meaningful investment in the well- being, resilience, and recovery of our community. This support will make a lasting impact on the lives of our residents.

The Township of Essa values our partnership with Hydro One and is truly grateful for their commitment to community recovery efforts across Ontario. The grants will support local recovery efforts after the widespread ice storm that left severe damage across the Township of Essa this past spring.
