Conflict of Interest

Declaration of Interest

Under the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, the Township establishes and maintains a public registry of pecuniary (financial) interests declared by council, committee and board members at a meeting.

Disclosing an interest

In disclosing a pecuniary interest, legislation requires a member to:

  • Disclose their interest and the general nature of the matter prior to any consideration at the meeting
  • File a written statement of their interest and its general nature with the Clerk using the Declaration of Interest Form
  • Not take part in the discussion of or vote on any question in respect of the matter
  • Not attempt in any way whether before, during or after the meeting to influence the voting on the matter
